Quit Fighting Alone

The best way to fight Satan is to quit fighting alone.

So many times, we struggle alone against our temptations.  No wonder we fail.

But Jesus invites us to surrender our fight to God in prayer.  As we ask Him to fight our  battles for us, the presence of God makes the devil flee.  Satan cannot be where Jesus reigns.  And where two or three are gathered in His name, He is surely there (Matt 18:20).  There is power in group prayer.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:7-10).

The first and most important step to victory is to humbly confess, “Lord, take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for Thee. Save me in spite of myself, my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere, where the rich current of Thy love can flow through my soul” (Christ’s Object Lessons, Ch 159).

And as we pray together, God will heal and lift us up, strong and whole.

Dear Father, forgive me for fighting alone. Help me to surrender to true fellowship with You and others. Thank you for loving me. Amen.

  1. This post and the one before about bitterness is exactly what I needed to hear. I want to quit fighting alone but at the same time I’m afraid of how things will turn out if I’m not in control of every situation. Reading this made me realize I’ve never really surrendered to God, and I haven’t been trusting him with my life. Surrendering can be a hard thing to do..

    1. yes, surrendering is hard… until you get to know Jesus for who He is… and when you realize He’s trustworthy, loving, and kind it becomes easy to surrender… I will be praying for you, that you get to know Him. Don’t give up! He promised – “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jer 29:13).
