Invincible Nothingness

How do we resist temptation?  How do we endure pain and suffering? How do we grow closer to God?

The answer always starts with the same foundation: recognize our helplessness.

Acknowledge to God that we are not strong enough to resist sin.  Confess that we don’t have enough faith to persevere.  Accept that we are sinful.

And with that distrust of self, cling onto Jesus with all your heart, mind, and sinew.  Instead of focusing all your energy in fighting Satan or the circumstance (or even yourself), put every effort into just wrapping your arms around the foot of the cross… into looking at the resurrected Jesus.

“Nothing can be more helpless and yet more invincible than the soul that feel its nothingness, and relies wholly upon the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour. God would send every angel in heaven to the aid of the one who places his whole dependence on Christ, rather than allow him to be overcome” {Ye Shall Receive Power p 358}.

“The one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37).

“He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer” (Psalm 102:17).

So fall helpless before the cross, asking for forgiveness and strength.  Hunger for Him, and He will give you invincible power to overcome.

“If we accept Christ as our Guide, He will lead us safely along the narrow way. The road may be rough and thorny, and the ascent steep and dangerous; there may be pitfalls on the right hand and on the left. When weary and longing for rest, we may have to toil on; when faint, we may have to fight; but with Christ as our guide, we shall not fail of reaching heaven” (The Signs of the Times, October 29, 1902).

We will reach heaven, friends . . . not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit (Zech 4:6).

Abba, Father!  I can’t do it – I am too sinful, too weak, too tired!  I lay down my sins, my burdens, my desires . . . will you carry me?  Thank you for being invincible – I surrender to you. Amen.
